Happy Saint Patricks day!
So my starfish lady cancelled :( She sent me a big long email apologising up and down, worried about an allergic reaction to the red pigmented ink. (her son is heavily tattooed, and raised concern about her allergies) so no starfish tattoo :( Totally understandable though, i'd prefer she not take that risk, and i'd rather not take that risk either. Im going to repost my craigslist ad again today, and do it as many times as i have to (Someone keeps flagging it and it gets removed..it hasn't been lasting even 10 minutes at a time anymore) in order to try and fill up all next week. I think these big long gaps of not getting to practice is definately hindering my progress.
I think maybe i'll tattoo myself today to try and get some practice. Im not a big fan of tattooing myself..but hey, do what you have to do right? Ive got this unfinished lily flower on my ankle anyway thats been bugging the shit out of me, haha. Hopefully i can get more people in...or I'm going to end up with full leg sleeves! haha.
Here's to a good day! Hope you all have a nice one as well!
LAME! I hate when they cancel! I hate even more when they are using hearsay! Yeah some people are allergic to red, but not as many as those who THINK they are. Most people are allergic to synthetic, so as long as you use au naturale, you should be just fine. But whatevs... sounds like she was just a chicken ;)
ReplyDeleteThe flagging on craigslist is likely someone who doesn't agree with the idea of you posting free work on there (i.e. some self-righteous tattooer, snob, wannabe, competitive apprentice, etc.)... are you posting it with the explicit statement that you are an apprentice? I am sure you are, but that could make the difference too. Some people are just dicks like that, and others are just trying to squash scratchers (not saying you are, but that's what they think they are doing). Either way, it sucks for you. Use Facebook until your friends are thoroughly pissed at your posts and notes and general begging for bodies. You will get people on there, just stress your guidelines and don't budge on 'em.
Tattooing yourself is great: It reminds you where you've been and what not to do ever again. Daily.
Make sure that when you don't have people that you are drawing, coloring and watercolor painting (if you can)... it's not the same, but it is better to improve your art on paper than do nothing at all. I wish I had done more of that myself.
I hope these replies help... I went thru an apprenticeship that was't super brutal, but I wasn't pushed as I should have been and I was kind of just looked at as free help by the other artists. I am just trying to share with you things that didn't/did work for me and things that I wish I had the foresight/commonsense to do. The biggest thign most artists forget is that you need to feel supported too. But I know you get that from the big boss ;)
Cheers to ya.
